Examination / Surgery
Various examinations

Visual acuity test
We measure corrected visual acuity using lenses. The examination distance is 5 meters. Visual acuity is important information for any disease, and it is important to perform a visual acuity test at every consultation so as not to overlook the slightest changes. Incidentally, the "C" mark used in the test is called a Landolt ring.

Intraocular pressure test
Air from the machine is directly applied to the cornea to measure the hardness of the eye. The intraocular pressure test is one of the basic tests in the ophthalmology outpatient clinic and is also an indicator for evaluating the effectiveness of various medications. Especially in the treatment of glaucoma, intraocular pressure is an important guideline for treatment, so it is necessary to measure it at every treatment.

Fundus examination
This examination uses a fundoscope and lens or fundus camera to observe the fundus of the eye, located deep inside the pupil, and examine the blood vessels, retina, and optic nerve in the fundus. For a more detailed examination, a mydriasis test is required.

Visual field test
The visual field is the area that can be seen. This test is essential for diagnosing not only glaucoma, retinal diseases, and optic nerve diseases, but also intracranial diseases. It is also necessary for applying for certification as a visually impaired person. At our clinic, we use the Goldmann perimeter and the Humphrey visual field analyzer for this test.

OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)
This is a test that takes pictures of retinal tomography. This test allows for differential diagnosis and evaluation of glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, etc. Retinal tomograms, which could not be detected by conventional tests, can now be accurately captured, allowing for early detection of diseases, determination of treatment plans, and accurate evaluation of treatment effects.

FAG (Fluorescent fundus angiography)
This is an examination to determine the pathology of the fundus of the eye using contrast medium. Contrast is injected through a blood vessel in the arm and images of the blood vessels in the fundus of the eye (retinal and choroidal blood vessels) are taken. This examination makes it possible to diagnose conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration and decide on treatment plans. Mydriasis is required to perform this test.
Cataract Surgery
What is cataract?
This is a disease in which the "crystalline lens", which plays the role of a lens in the eye, becomes cloudy. The crystalline lens, which functions to focus the eye, is soft and translucent like jelly when young, but gradually hardens after the age of 40 and becomes yellowish or cloudy around the age of 60. Presbyopia (aged eyes) is a condition in which the crystalline lens hardens with age, making it impossible to adjust the focus properly, and "cataract" is a condition in which the crystalline lens becomes less transparent and cloudy.
Cataract surgery procedure

If you suspect "you have cataracts", please consult with us. We will conduct various tests and, if necessary, perform a mydriasis test, so please refrain from driving to the clinic. By dilating the pupils, we can see in detail whether there are cataracts or other diseases in the fundus of the eye. Additionally, we will check your general condition through blood and urine tests.
① Medical consultation

Once the surgery date is set, please make an appointment for a preoperative examination approximately a week before the surgery date and visit our clinic. We will conduct detailed examinations of the cornea, lens, and retina. We will perform preoperative treatment, including checking that your nasolacrimal ducts (tear duct) are not blocked, and explain the surgery.
②Preoperative examination

Please arrive at 9:30 a.m. on the day of surgery. We will examine your eyes in the outpatient department and then perform preoperative treatment in the ward. Surgeries will be conducted in the afternoon in order. After the surgery, you will need to wear an eyepatch on the operated eye and rest in bed for 2 hours. There will be no lunch, but dinner will be provided at the clinic.
③Day of Surgery

You will need to have check-ups on the 1st, 2nd, 4th day, and 1 week after surgery. Please refrain from working with your eyes for about 10 days after surgery. Also, refrain from washing your face or washing your hair by yourself for 2 weeks after surgery.
➃After surgery
In our clinic, we perform not only cataract surgery but also glaucoma surgery, vitreous injection, and external eye surgery.
